A Newport resident has beaten hundreds of people to be named as a regional semi-finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
David Price, 37, is in with a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to New York along with £10,000 spending money.
David, a warehouse clerk, started wearing glasses when he was 13 years old.
Glasses ‘complete an outfit’
‘I like wearing my glasses as I think they complete an outfit. When choosing frames, I try on lots of pairs and take someone with me to ask for advice about what suits me,’ he says.
‘I would advise other glasses wearers to find a style that you like then have the confidence to wear them.’
He was invited to his local Specsavers store in Austin Friars in Newport and presented with a bottle of champagne, a semi-finalist certificate and a £150 voucher to spend at the store.
Newport store director, Jason Williams, says: ‘It is great that David is really happy with his frames and loves to wear them. We hope that his confidence will inspire other spectacle wearers to don their glasses with pride.
‘On behalf of everyone at the Austin Friars store, I’d like to congratulate David on getting this far in the competition and wish him the best of luck in the next round of judging.’
The 2016 awards were launched earlier this year by singer and dancer Kimberly Wyatt. For each entry made, £1 has been donated to Kidscape, the anti-bullying charity.
