Get to know more about the Newmarket Specsavers store director, Samantha Moore.
How long have you been with Specsavers?
I started working at Specsavers at the age of 15 as a Saturday girl while in Year 11. It has now been 15 years!
What made you go into optometry and what are your qualifications?
I always knew I wanted to do something science-related however, at such a young age, I wasn’t sure exactly what route I would take and where I would end up so I studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology for my A-Levels as I hoped this would leave me in a good position to make my decision over the following two years. During those two years, my training with Specsavers progressed and I ended up falling in love with optics. It was at this point that I decided that I wanted to be a dispensing optician and took up the day release ABDO training course for three years to gain my professional qualification in 2008.
How has your life changed since qualifying in 2008?
I have spent the 5 years following my qualification working my way up the management roles with a break in between to have my son who is now 4 years old. I am now a proud store director.
Where were you born/raised?
I was born in Greenwich and grew up in Bexley.
What is your favourite part about the job?
I am passionate about people, be they customers or staff. My days are filled with caring for both and this naturally makes me very happy. It would be fair to say that I really adore my job and I love coming into work every day and I am certainly proud of the team here in Newmarket.
Have you enjoyed your experience with Specsavers?
Specsavers have been a wonderful company to work for and have really provided me with the training and guidance that has been necessary to help me reach my personal goals. I am so glad to now be in a position where I am able to offer the same level of help and guidance to the next generation of optical professionals and I am really looking forward to working with as many of them as I can.
