Specsavers New Malden store director Dr Ahmed Sivardeen was delighted to represent his community at a special sports day organised by a local youth club this month.
Dr Sivardeen was invited as a guest of honour to the event set up by the Institute of Tamil Culture (ITC) Youth Sports Club, which was held at the Kingsmeadow Stadium in Kingston upon Thames on 8 July.
He was joined by other respected local figures including Kingston and Surbiton MP Sir Edward Davey and Kingston councillor Lorraine Rolfe, who presided over a number of sporting activities on the day including track and field, football, cricket and netball.
The ITC Youth Sports Club helps children and adults from the neighbouring Tamil, Indian, Pakistani and English communities to get involved in sport by organising regular practice sessions and competitions.

As well as representing Specsavers, Dr Sivardeen was also in attendance in his capacity as president and chairman of the British Sri Lankan Association (BRISLA), an organisation focused on building partnerships between the UK and Sri Lanka.
He says: ‘It was a great day all round and I was honoured to be invited as a guest of honour to the event. The sports day was an excellent opportunity to support and celebrate the collaborative work of the many communities living in the Kingston area.’
