Specsavers New Malden store director Dr Ahmed Sivardeen met with Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable last month to discuss the important care he and fellow opticians provide to local communities.
Dr Sivardeen joined Sir Cable for a visit to Specsavers in Twickenham as part of a meeting organised by the Local Optical Committee and the Optical Confederation.
During the meeting, Dr Sivardeen – who is also chair of the Kingston, Richmond and Twickenham Local Optical Committee – spoke to Sir Cable about the role local opticians were playing in delivering professional eye care to patients, including offering additional services for minor eye conditions.
He also stressed the importance of having regular sight tests to help maintain eye health, after Sir Cable mentioned that he last had his vision checked three years ago.
A word from the director
Dr Sivardeen said: ‘We were very grateful to Sir Cable for sparing the time to discuss the importance of eye care with us. We had a very positive discussion about how local opticians and optometrists are working even harder to provide additional services and care to their communities.
‘We also discussed the importance of education in optometry and how this is helping to improve productivity and efficiency in the work we do.’
