Specsavers New Malden store director Dr Ahmed Sivardeen visited Brussels this month in his role as chairman of the British Sri Lankan Association (BRISLA) to engage with MEPs and build stronger relationships with colleagues from across Europe.
A group of 10 delegates, led by Dr Ahmed Sivardeen, were in the Belgian capital to attend a hearing at the European Parliament in order to witness first-hand the decision-making process behind policies and legislation affecting EU countries.
The group also welcomed Syed Kamall, Conservative MEP for London, to join the excursion, who was able to pass on his knowledge and experience on representing the UK at the European Parliament.
Dr Sivardeen said: ‘We were delighted to have Syed Kamall MEP join us for our visit to Brussels and help provide his expertise on the EU decision-making process.
‘With Brexit just around the corner, it is important for us an organisation to continue to engage with and strengthen relationships between British and Sri Lankan communities and our European counterparts.’
BRISLA is an organisation dedicated to building partnerships and cultivating ties between the UK and Sri Lanka, and is dedicated to facilitating co-operation on issues including education, health and environmental factors.
