Staff at Specsavers in Newcastle-under-Lyme will be dressed in neon on Friday 9 October as they welcome some special visitors into the store as part of Guide Dogs Week 2015.
Getting behind the charity’s ‘Let’s Glow’ theme, the team will be joined by a guide dog and its handler during their Glow in the Dark Day. As well as having the opportunity to learn more about the work of Guide Dogs in the community, customers will be able to enjoy a sweet treat from the store’s cake sale, while younger visitors can ‘guess the name of the puppy’ to win a special prize.
‘We’re really proud to be supporting Guide Dogs once again this year,’ said Peter Harvey, store director. ‘As we’ll be joined by a guide dog on the day, it will be a great opportunity for our customers to find out more about the charity’s work locally. We hope to see lots of customers pop in for a slice of cake to show their support for the charity.’
Guide Dogs Week is the charity’s annual awareness and fundraising week which takes place from 3-11 October. Specsavers has proudly supported the charity for more than 10 years, raising a nationwide total of £270,000 to fund 25 guide dog puppies.
Every donation helps
Lisa Bell, Guide Dogs’ corporate partnerships officer, says: ‘Every hour another person in the UK loses their sight, and the impact is life changing. The Guide Dogs charity is here to make sure that when someone loses their vision they don’t have to lose their freedom as well. This Guide Dogs Week we want to reach even more people to raise awareness and reach our biggest ever Guide Dogs Week fundraising target of £1million. Everyone is invited to join in the ‘Let’s Glow’ fun, meet some amazing people and have a good time!’
Specsavers customers can also get involved in Guide Dogs Week by visiting www.guidedogs.org.uk/letsglow, or can simply show their support by texting FREEDOM to 70007 to donate just £3, or even pop in to a store to pick up a glow in the dark pin badge for £1.
