England goalkeeping legend Gordon Banks OBE, who played for the national side from 1963-1972, wowed staff when he popped into Specsavers in Newcastle-under-Lyme this week for a hearing test.
Gordon, who also played for Leicester City and Stoke City during his 15-year career, made 628 appearances and won an impressive 73 caps for his country. He also played every game of the England team’s 1966 World Cup victory.
Safe pair of hands
The team at the store on High Street gave him a warm welcome, as he participated in a hearing check before posing for pictures with staff and customers.
Audiologist, David Walker, said it was a great pleasure to host a footballing hero in store.
‘It was an amazing experience meeting Gordon, who’s considered one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time.
Stars in their eyes
‘He was a real gent and it was a pleasure to work with somebody who’s achieved so much in what’s been a high profile career – it was a very special day here in store.’
In addition to offering hearing tests and aids, Specsavers now also offers an earwax removal service. This enables customers experiencing excess wax to pop into store and see an experienced trained and accredited hearing care professional to remove this effectively for just £35 per ear.
Experts recommend a hearing check every two years for those over 55 or for anyone with a hearing loss.
