Tell us something about yourself.
I’m 42 years old and married with two teenage sons; Charlie, 17 and Henry, 15. I enjoy spending my time off work with my family, travelling, running and walking our dog, Emmy.
How did you come to be a director of a Specsavers store?
I joined the Newbury store in July 1997 as a graduate optometrist and qualified two months later. I was then promoted to director in August 2008.
Do you wear glasses yourself, and if so, do you have a favourite style?
I have reading glasses at home but tend to wear my contact lenses when I’m working as they’re really convenient for a busy job.
What does your role as director involve?
Even though my role as director involves a lot of work around the day-to-day running of the store, I still spend a lot of time sight testing which is a passion and something I really enjoy.
How long have you been at the Newbury store?
20 years this July!
What is the best part of your role?
I enjoy both the sight testing side but also the aspect that goes with running a business. I love working with people and meeting different people on a daily basis.
So that must keep it interesting?
Definitely! Each person who comes through the door has a different expectation and requirement and this keeps my job really stimulating.
I’d say it’s the unknown of each day. You never know who is going to walk into the store and what problem they may have. Then it’s my job to find that out and solve it for them.
How many members of staff work at the store?
We now have an incredible team of 36 staff in-store.
Why is it so important to get your eyes checked regularly?
Regular eye checks ensure that any eye problems can be picked up and treated at the earliest possible opportunity. Sometimes other health problems can be detected through sight a test which is another reason why regular eye checks are so important.
How can patients book an eye test?
Either come into the store, phone us on 01635 46105 or book an appointment online.
