At this time of year many of us start to dream of warmer climes and long days on the beach. But if you are planning to escape to a sunny destination, it’s important to ensure your and your family’s eyesight is properly protected from UV rays. The Specsavers teams across Berkshire are on-hand to offer advice.
Importance of UV protection
Your local Berkshire opticians is raising awareness of the danger winter sun can pose not only to our skin, but our eyes too.
The teams are calling on families to ensure that their eyes are properly protected from sun damage and are urging anyone who is heading off on holiday to check their sunglasses to make sure they are fully protected against UV rays.
- Sunglasses should be marked UV 400 to provide sufficient protection from sun damage
- The larger the lens, the more protection they’ll give your eyes as there’s less chance that light will filter in through the sides
- If you are taking prescription sunglasses on holiday, take your optician's phone number with you so that if they break your prescription can be sent to an optician near you so that you can get new ones
Staff at your local store can offer help and advice if you are unsure as to the level of protection they need.
