An opticians in Musselburgh has announced it is set to sponsor the local library’s children’s book club.
Specsavers Musselburgh will sponsor Musselburgh Library’s weekly book club for children aged four-seven, providing books from Chatterbooks, an agency that encourages reading and fun activities inspired by the best children’s books.
Store director at Specsavers in Musselburgh, Diana Kelly, recently visited the library to donate Gruffalo books for the children.
Diana said: ‘We are proud of our involvement with Musselburgh Library. The Chatterbooks clubs really encourage the children to take books home to read, which in turn hopes to inspire lifelong reading habits.
‘We are also involved in the Reading is Braw 15 week initiative in Musselburgh which enlists the help of communities to encourage children to enjoy the written word. Staff in the store are all wearing lanyards with the name of the book they are currently reading in an aim to spark positive conversations with children about their books
‘At Specsavers Musselburgh we are proud to be at the heart of the community supporting local organisations in any way we can’.
Inspiring young readers
Caroline Messer, librarian at Musselburgh Library says: ‘I am so pleased that the partnership with our local Specsavers is continuing to develop. Everyone at the library was delighted with the sponsorship of our younger book club, which is aimed at primary 1-3 children.
‘The Chatterbooks collection encourages reading and interaction and we hope the book club will inspire more children to get involved and join the local library.’
