A generous donation of food from a Motherwell opticians will bring some festive cheer to families in need this Christmas.
Staff and customers at the Specsavers store in Brandon Parade South collected a trolley full of items for the Basics Foodbank in North Lanarkshire – a food collection scheme which covers Motherwell, Wishaw, Airdrie and Bellshill.
Caring staff and customers donated a generous supply of essentials including tins, sauces, cereal, tea bags and toiletries, and also presented the foodbank with a selection of toys for youngsters of all ages.
Staff donated items instead of sending Christmas cards this year – and the team was delighted with the two large boxes and numerous bags collected.
Ian Moss, store director at Specsavers Motherwell, said: ‘Basics Foodbank is a vital resource for people across Motherwell and beyond and is especially important at this time of year.
‘Christmas can be a very difficult time for people and organisations like foodbanks provide much-needed help to individuals and families.
‘Supporting the local community is very important to us and we’re delighted that we could help a great cause in this way.’
