The local opticians sponsored the recent Montrose Triathlon – an annual swimming, cycling and running event which is now in its fourth year.
Supporting a popular local event
Specsavers Montrose has supported the triathlon for the past four years by providing reusable water bottles and high visibility vests for all event volunteers which have been re-used in subsequent years.
The Tri Angus triathlon raised funds for its charity partner, Tayside Mountain Rescue with the final total still to be confirmed. Participants made donations upon signing up for the triathlon, as well as after finishing the race in return for a massage.
Christopher Nugent, store director at Specsavers in Montrose said: ‘Montrose Triathlon is a very popular event and we are delighted to have supported it year on year.
‘We hope the items we have contributed over the years continue to prove useful to participants and event volunteers.’
Successful fourth year
Maggie Lawrie, Tri Angus Director, was delighted with the success of the event and is looking forward to next year already.
She said: ‘It has been a fantastic event, well done to everyone who took part. It is really rewarding to see everyone enjoying themselves and feeling proud of their achievements at the finish line.
‘I would also like to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers who helped out both on the Saturday and Sunday, and to our sponsors, including Specsavers Montrose. Without the support of the local community this event simply would not be possible. Specsavers has supported our triathlon right from the word go and we are very grateful for the continued support.’
The triathlon consisted of a novice competition comprising a 400m swim, 12km bike ride and 5km run, while the sprint competition for those with a little more experience comprised a 750m swim, 20km bike ride and a 5km run.
