Opticians in Mexborough have been told to get on their bikes as they gear up for this year’s Sport Relief activity.
Get on your bike
Specsavers on York Square has been inspired to join the nation in fundraising by installing an exercise bike on the street outside the store.
The team will man the bike all day on Saturday 24 March with the aim of cycling 170 miles between them – the distance between Mexborough and London. They hope that local shoppers will drop in to show their encouragement and offer donations to Sport Relief.
Glasses MOTs available too
Customers can also have their glasses cleaned and checked for the perfect fit in exchange for a donation to the charity.
Andrew Bryer, store director at Mexborough Specsavers, says: ‘The whole team is really excited about the challenge and even those who can’t cycle will be counting their steps on Friday and Saturday to contribute towards the total distance travelled.
Thanks in advance to our generous customers
‘In the past we have always been blown away by the generosity of Mexborough’s shoppers when it comes to charity fundraising, so we’re hoping to raise an impressive amount for the charity with their support. The money will help to improve the lives of disadvantaged people living in the UK and the world’s poorest countries. I would like to thank all of our customers in advance for their generosity.’
Sport Relief 2016 raised more than £55.5m, which has supported more than 2,000 projects in fields such as maternal health, malaria and mental health.
To support the Specsavers Mexborough team, simply make a donation in the store on York Square on 25 March.
