A teacher from Merthyr has beaten hundreds of people to be named as a regional semi-finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Pilar Mayo, 30, is in with a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to New York along with £10,000 spending money.
Enjoy your glasses
‘Recently I bought these frames and I wear them all the time because they are so fashionable,’ she says.
‘When I wear glasses I feel very pretty and they boost my confidence, but also, as I work as a teacher, they make me look quite authoritative.
‘I would tell other glasses wearers to choose frames that they like and make them feel good about themselves, and then just enjoy wearing them!’
Pilar, who has been wearing glasses since she was 10 years old, was invited to her local Specsavers on High Street and presented with a bottle of champagne, a certificate and £150 to spend at the store.
Store director, Peter Render, says: ‘It is great that Pilar is really happy with her frames and loves to wear them. We hope that her confidence will inspire other spectacle wearers to don their glasses with pride.
‘On behalf of everyone at the Merthyr store, I’d like to congratulate Pilar on getting this far in the competition and wish her the best of luck in the next round of judging.’
The 2016 awards were launched earlier this year by singer and dancer Kimberly Wyatt. For each entry made, £1 has been donated to Kidscape, the anti-bullying charity.
