Specsavers in Merthyr Tydfil has invested £30,000 to expand its hearing services and bring a state-of-the-art soundproof booth and equipment to the store.

With growing demand for audiology services, Specsavers Audiologists on High Street has reconfigured its store layout and moved its back office functions and optical laboratory to a smaller unit offsite to create additional testing space.

The introduction of a soundproof booth at the store removes the need for large, sound-cancelling headphones to be used as part of a hearing test.

Video otoscope technology

The store now also uses new video otoscope technology to examine the overall health of customers’ ears. The video otoscope is a small camera which is inserted into the ear to enable audiologists at the store to project images of the ear onto a screen so that customers can see for themselves how healthy their ears are.

‘Invest in technology’

Peter Render, store director of Specsavers in Merthyr Tydfil, said: ‘To be able to service the increasing number of customers we are seeing and to give them the best service possible, we reviewed the day-to-day running of the store to see how we could maximise the space available to us.

‘We are always keen to invest in technology to ensure that we offer the highest-quality, professional services on the market, and with the recent work we’ve just finished in-store and the introduction of new technology such as the video otoscope, we are now in an even better position to offer optical and audiology services to Merthyr’s community.’

Specsavers recommends that anyone over the age of 55 has a hearing test every year as part of a regular health care routine.
