Members of staff at Specsavers in Melksham swapped specs for sponges to raise much-needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Aspiring bakers invited local residents to enjoy a slice of cake on Friday 30 September and Saturday 1 October as part of ‘The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’, raising a total of £121 for the cancer charity.
Making a difference
Store director Martyn Thomas comments: ‘I don’t know anyone who can resist a delicious slice of home-baked cake, and raising funds for a great cause such as Macmillan makes it much sweeter. The event was a real success and it was great to see our local community getting involved.’
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event. Each year, the charity invites people across the UK to host their own coffee mornings, with last year’s event raising more than £25 million.
‘We all know someone who has been affected by cancer, either directly or through loved ones,’ Martyn continued. ‘The work that Macmillan does is so important, so we’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to support the charity and help make a difference to people across the country.’
Macmillan Cancer Support provides medical, emotional and financial support to cancer sufferers and their families. There are more than 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK alone.
