An opticians in Mansfield has pledged to keep school children safe by donating high visibility vests to four local primary schools and a Brownie group.
Wainwright Primary School, Abbey Primary School, Church Vale Primary School, Heatherley Primary School and Blidworth Brownies were each presented with the high visibility vests by staff from Mansfield Specsavers.
A national campaign for road safety
The high visibility vests were donated as part of an initiative set up by Specsavers, which aims to increase the safety of local children when out and about by making it easier for motorists to spot them.
Imogen Hoyle, Store director at the Specsavers store in Mansfield, commented: ‘At this time of year with the dark mornings and nights, combined with the winter weather, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians, and dusk is particularly hazardous when the children are walking home from school.
‘With this in mind we decided that we wanted to help increase the safety of children in Mansfield and offered the local schools and the Brownie group the high visibility vests.'
Free eye tests for under–16s
Imogen continued: ‘As part of the initiative, we’re also hoping to raise awareness of free glasses and eye tests that are available to under 16-year-olds. It’s is important to make sure that children have regular eye tests as an undetected problem could lead to something more severe in the long term.’
