As part of Armed Forces Week, which is taking place from 23 – 29 June, Specsavers in Manchester Arndale will be fundraising for Blind Veterans UK, in support of ex-service men and women who are suffering from a visual impairment or have lost their vision.

The work that Blind Veterans UK do

The charity provides guidance and support to veterans, which includes helping them relearn vital life skills and providing them with the tools they need to be independent in their own homes, offering new learning, training and recreation opportunities as well as providing long-term nursing, residential and respite care. Blind Veterans UK provides vital support for the men and women who have served our country, and it doesn't matter when they served, or for how long. Nor does it matter how they lost their sight. If they served their country then Blind Veterans UK are there to support them so they do not have to battle blindness alone.

Why it’s important to help

Peter Dodd, store director at Manchester Arndale says: ‘Blindness or visual impairment affects a number of our ex-service men and women, meaning many need additional day-to-day support and care. Blind Veterans UK plays a vital role in providing this support service. He continues: ‘In most cases these veterans have been brave enough to risk their lives and stand up to protect our country, so now it’s time for us to all give back where we can. At Specsavers in Manchester Arndale we will be encouraging our customers to give what they can in support of this important cause.’
