Audiology director Paul Whitcomb leads the hearing services for Maldon, Southend, Rayleigh, Chingford, Brentwood, Braintree and Billericay. He has worked in hearing care for nearly 15 years.
The Hockley resident graduated with a BSc in Management Sciences from the University of Loughborough and began working in the city as a FTSE 100 options market maker. In 2002 the 47-year-old decided to have a career change when a family member saw an advert looking for people interested in training as an audiologist.
15 years’ experience
Paul said: ‘I really liked the idea of mixing my experience in customer services and working with the public with the opportunity to help people.’
Paul trained in 2004 before working as an audiologist in the UK and later in Hervey Bay in Queensland, Australia. After 10 years of working in the industry, he joined Specsavers and took over the store in Southend.
Paul has expanded the services of the stand-alone Hearing Centre in Southend to include a team of nine working at Specsavers branches spanning the whole of Essex.
A rewarding career
Paul continued: ‘I find it really rewarding, knowing that the work you do can make such a huge difference to a person’s life.’
Paul enjoys travelling with his wife Terri and their two daughters Holly, 11 and Abigail, 8. They are looking forward to hopefully travelling to America.
