Specsavers’s search for the nation’s proudest specs wearers has kicked off – with a £10,000 cash prize up for grabs.
Last year six regional finalists hailed from Essex - more than any other county in the UK and Ireland combined, including national winner Alex Miller from Silver End - making Essex residents the most glamorous glasses wearers in Britain.
Essex specs-wearers could be most glamorous
The competition is open to all entrants aged 16 and over, with five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s – plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. A winner from each category will win a VIP makeover and mingle with celebrities at the awards in London in October.
Mike Bromidge, store director at Specsavers in Maldon, said: ‘I wasn’t surprised to hear that someone from Essex had won the prize last year and I’m sure the county can produce the next Spectacle Wearer of the Year. I’m looking forward to seeing all the entries.’
Donations to charity for each entry
One pound will be donated to Kidscape for each entry made and the competition has raised more than half a million pounds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape over the past nine years. Money raised will help to support the charity in providing practical support to children and families affected by bullying, including advice resources, phone support and workshops.
To win this specs-tacular accolade, glasses wearers can enter the competition online at specsavers.co.uk/loveglassecomp. Deadline for entries is 1 July 2018.
