Ben Crockett, a solicitor and former Rainey Endowed student is a finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Ben from Magherafelt read a feature on last year’s Award winner and Love Island star Alex Miller and thought he would give the competition a try.
‘I thought if Alex can do it, I wonder could I give it a shot too. It’s a bit of fun and I’m really pleased to reach the next stage of the competition especially as it’s the first time I’ve entered.’
Glasses essential for his work
‘I wore glasses for a short time when I was seven and only needed to come back to wearing specs 18 months ago. I do a lot of close reading work and use the computer daily as part of my job at an international law firm and find that glasses are essential now for work. Whilst I was never bullied as a seven-year-old child, I admire Specsavers getting behind anti-bullying charity Kidscape as an integral part of the campaign helping to raise vital funds.’
A perfect specs ambassador
Store manager Adele Campbell congratulated Ben on being a 25-34 category winner saying, ‘We’re all delighted to have a local man reach this stage of the awards. Ben is such a gentleman and is the perfect glasses ambassador – he thoroughly deserves the accolade. We all wish him the very best of luck for the next round of judging.’
Glitzy London awards ceremony
The awards were launched by Steps star Claire Richards earlier this year. If Ben triumphs in his age category, he will have the chance to win £10,000, meet Claire and rub shoulders with many other celebs at the glitzy awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
