A retail supervisor at Specsavers in Macclesfield has raised over £700 for Macmillan Cancer Support by joining the Brave The Shave initiate, raising money for people living with cancer.
Shaving your head is a scary thought to most people, but Craig Wollaston shaved all of his off, including his beard, on 30 November. Thanks to support from the local community, Craig smashed his fundraising target of £500 and has so far raised a total of £701.98.
Craig, who has worked at the Macclesfield Specsavers store for more than 10 years, collected donations for the charity through pots in the store and through donations via the Brave The Shave website.
Rasing funds for an important cause
All of the money raised has been donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, which offers a range of services that aim to improve the lives of everyone living with cancer, as well as inspiring others to do the same.
As well as the money raised being sent to Macmillan Cancer Support, Craig’s hair will also be donated to The Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs to children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.
Craig’s hair was shaven by Ian Boughey from local salon, Mawson Hairdressing, who were extremely pleased to be able to support the initiative.
'Huge thank you'
Craig says: ‘Cancer is something that is close to everyone’s heart in one way or another and Macmillan is an incredible charity to support. I’m pleased there’s a way I can do my bit to help and I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated at the Specsavers store, at the Railway View pub, or through the website.
‘If you can afford to spare any money to sponsor someone else Braving The Shave, I know the Macmillan team will be incredibly grateful.’
A word from ophthalmic director
Peter Scott, ophthalmic director at the Specsavers Macclesfield store, says: ‘We’re so proud of Craig and the amount he’s managed to raise for such a worthwhile cause. We’d like to wish everyone else Braving The Shave for Macmillan all the best and a say big well done from Macclesfield Specsavers!’
