Longbridge resident Daniel Burnham has cause for celebration after being chosen as a semi-finalist in his age group of the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Hundreds of entries
The 34-year-old nursing student entered the national competition after being prompted by a friend. He has recently been chosen out of hundreds of other entries in the area as a semi-finalist, and is now in with a chance of winning £10,000.
To mark his achievement, Daniel was invited to the Longbridge store to receive a bottle of champagne, a £150 eyewear voucher and a certificate.
Daniel said: ‘I’ve worn glasses since I was four-years-old and I love them. I’ve always had to wear them, but have never shied away from my glasses. I have two or three pairs on the go at any time and try to match them to my outfit.’
‘Daniel has a definite style with his spectacles, and likes the fuller vintage style frames that are fashionable at the moment,’ added store director Irfan Shafi Aziz. ‘His advice to other glasses-wearers is to be proud of your specs style, and to match them to your personality; advice we echo and encourage.’
The awards were launched by Nadine Coyle, formerly of Girls Aloud, earlier this year.
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and 60+. Each age category winner will be treated to a VIP makeover and a trip to London for the awards evening on 10 October, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate prize.
