A nurse from Dromore has been shortlisted as a regional finalist for the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year Award for the 16 – 24 category.
Nikita aged 24 applied for the competition to support the competition’s charity, Kidscape, however, she did not expect to claim the title of Regional Finalist.
‘I saw the competition as an opportunity to help support a good cause and I thought I was doing my bit for the community, but when I found out about being shortlisted I was thrilled.’
Glasses for fashion
‘I have worn glasses since my teens after my eyesight deteriorated due to contracting a swine flu virus that affected my sight. After my eyesight improved I found that I really like wearing glasses and saw them as a cool fashion accessory that I could wear for any occasion’
A perfect specs ambassador
Store director Jill Campbell congratulated Nikita on being a 16-24 category winner saying, ‘We are delighted that Nikita has been selected as a regional winner. She is a great example of a young person who is confident to wear glasses and sees them as something that should be embraced as a fashion accessory.’
Glitzy London awards ceremony
The awards were launched by Steps star Claire Richards earlier this year. If Nikita triumphs in her age category, she will have the chance to win £10,000, meet Claire and rub shoulders with many other celebs at the glitzy awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
