Specsavers in Leven recenty hosted a coffee and cake event during Deaf Awareness Week which raised £140 to help sponsor a hearing dog puppy who will transform the life of a deaf person.
Specsavers Leven held a ‘Paws for Coffee’ event with cupcakes, tray bakes and fudge cake in store, and a special furry friend paid the team a visit to help on the day.
Hearing dog puppy-in-training, Kola, helped raise awareness of the charity and the extremely important work it carries out in providing deaf people with a newfound sense of independence and confidence.
Smashing through fundraising target
Adrian McCann, store director at Specsavers Leven, said: ‘Hearing dogs are always so popular with our customers, so we were delighted to welcome Kola in store for our Paws for Coffee day. Our store team were sporting fluffy dog ears while encouraging donations and sales of their home baked goodies all afternoon.
‘We aimed to raise £100 to sponsor a hearing dog but successfully sold out of our sweet treats meaning we smashed our target, reaching £140.
‘Thanks to everyone for their kind donations and the team at Specsavers Leven for their fantastic fundraising efforts on the day.’
Celebrating 10 year partnership
This year, Specsavers and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People are celebrating a special milestone – a 10-year partnership – that has helped change the lives of thousands of deaf people. The charity trains dogs to alert deaf people to sounds they would otherwise miss, including the doorbell, alarm clocks and fire alarms.
