Customers whose first language isn’t English may find a familiar voice at Specsavers in Leicester, where throughout the team a total of eight different languages are spoken.
As well as English, some members of the team can also speak Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu, Punjabi, Romanian, Polish and French. Customers of these nationalities can have their eye tested with help from a relevant team member, who can translate important information and help to make individuals feel at ease.
'Eight different languages spoken amonst us'
‘Having your eyes tested when English isn’t your first language can be quite daunting’, said store director Baljit Kaur. ‘Being able to have help from somebody that speaks your language can be hugely reassuring for a customer. We hope that local people are not put off having their eyes tested if they speak a different language. As a team we’re extremely welcoming and with eight different languages spoken amongst us, it’s most likely that one of us will speak the same language as you.’
