A local opticians in Launceston has teamed up with the International Glaucoma Association to ensure that staff are up-skilling to better support customers with the condition.
What is glaucoma?
Often symptomless in its early stages, glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible sight loss. It is thought to affect 700,000 people in the UK today, but as many as 50% of cases are undiagnosed*.
Tackling glaucoma, one correct drop at a time
In conjunction with the International Glaucoma Association, Specsavers has developed the training for its retail teams to assist sufferers with their treatment. Specifically, they will be advising on how to effectively administer eye drops, which are crucial for managing the condition.
Professional care from every staff member
Team member, Victoria Holt, completed the training with three other colleagues. She says: It’s really important for us to be very aware of glaucoma and its effects, as we see this unfortunately nearly every day in our jobs. Thanks to the training we are able to speak to customers in more detail about the condition and address any concerns.’
