Rugby fever came to Roddensvale Special Needs School this week with the visit of the Guinness PRO12 rugby trophy thanks to Specsavers in Larne for an assembly. The school children were able to get their hands on the coveted trophy before the Ulster Rugby V Cardiff Blues match at the Kingspan Stadium on Friday 23rd October.
Eye care in sport
While showing off the trophy, Specsavers Larne store director Deirdre McAree explained to the Roddensvale School kids about the importance of good eye care in sport and how to look after their eyesight when taking part in activities. Along with learning some useful tips, the pupils were also taught a little about how they see and the anatomy of the eye.
Ready for the match
Store director Deirdre McAree says, 'We were delighted to bring the Guinness PRO12 Trophy to Roddensvale ahead of Ulster’s big match this weekend. There’s always a great buzz before an Ulster game so it’s really special to involve one of our local schools in the excitement.'
As an official sponsor of the Guinness PRO12 match officials and referees, Specsavers is also the official optician and hearing services partner of the Guinness PRO12, providing expert eye care for players and officials, ensuring no ‘should’ve gone to Specsavers’ moments on the pitch. The partnership also highlights the importance of eye and hearing care in sport, especially playing a contact sport like rugby.
