A Lanark woman has secured a spot as the only Scottish finalist at the Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards, being selected from thousands of people across the UK and Ireland.
First in the 45-59 age category
51-year-old Karen Adam came first in her age category of 45-59 and will get to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual awards ceremony in London in October. Karen is now a step closer to winning the massive prize of £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas.
Karen, a health screening specialist from Lanark, has worn specs since she was 25 years-old. It was actually her husband Gary that entered Karen into the competition as he believes his gorgeous wife stands a good chance of winning.
Over the moon
She said: ‘I love wearing my specs and think that you can get some really great, fashionable frames. ‘I’m so glad that my husband entered me into the competition – I had a fantastic time collecting a lovely bouquet of flowers from the Lanark store and can’t wait to go to the awards ceremony in London.
‘I’m absolutely over the moon to be a finalist!’
Rubena Kerr, store director at Specsavers in Lanark said: ‘All our staff are absolutely delighted that Karen has been chosen as a finalist. It was lovely to welcome Karen to the store to congratulate her.
‘We all have our fingers crossed that Karen will be announced as the winner on 6 October.’
Celeb-packed awards ceremony
Karen will meet Spice Girl and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton, who launched the competition earlier this year, as well as a whole host of specs wearing celebs at the awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue.
All age category winners will have a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the most prestigious title in specs wearing at the grand finale. The winner of The Spectacle Wearer of the Year will receive £10,000, a week’s holiday for two in the Bahamas courtesy of Atlantis Paradise Island and a wardrobe of specs to suit every style.
