Staff from Specsavers in Thurrock-Lakeside visited Orsett Church of England Primary School this month to teach children the importance of looking after their eyes.

People who help people

The team, including store director Jay Visrolia, pre-registered optometrist Zahra Khan, trainee dispensing optician Danni Metcalfe and clinic coordinator George Sutton, were invited by teacher Mrs. Reynolds as part of the pupils’ learning around the topic: people who help people.

Jay said: ‘It’s so important to spark an interest in eye health at an early age and get children comfortable with the idea of an eye test. Statistics show that more than two fifths of parents say their children haven’t had a test at an opticians in the recommended last two years and it’s really vital that we change this and make sure that their first visit to the opticians isn’t at all scary.’

Teaching the kids about eyes

After a fun, interactive presentation by Jay classmates were split into three groups and shown various pieces of equipment used to test eyes.
