Customers at Specsavers Lakeside can now access an upgraded hearing care service, thanks to the store becoming an audiology hub.

This means that the team, who can be found at Unit 82 in Lakeside Shopping Centre, are ready and waiting to carry out free hearing tests, fit hearing aids, and remove troublesome ear wax, amongst other things.

New director

The new audiology hub is run by new director Ruby Uddin, who has worked for Specsavers for over a decade.

After joining Specsavers as an optical assistant initially, she has worked her way up across a number of different roles – and has developed a huge passion for audiology along the way.

A word from Ruby

Ruby said: ‘I discovered audiology through Specsavers. Before I knew it, I had enrolled myself at university and was well on my way to becoming a hearing aid dispenser, before achieving my dream of becoming a director.

‘Over the last year, many people have reported feeling increasingly isolated – and there is no doubt that having a problem with your hearing can exacerbate this even further. We want to help you hear better, and with free hearing tests and no obligation to buy, you really have nothing to lose.’

Open with safety in mind

Specsavers stores are open through the current lockdown to support customers with their eye and hearing care needs. Customers must book in advance to ensure social distancing, and a wide range of new hygiene and personal protection measures are in place.

These include restrictions on the number of customers allowed in store, strict social distancing, and card payments instead of cash where possible and use of PPE in line with NHS guidance. All testing equipment is thoroughly sanitised after each use.
