Lenzie Golf Club has secured another year of funding thanks to its partnership with a local opticians.
Specsavers in Kirkintilloch has committed to supporting the club by sponsoring the 14th hole on the course, as well as providing the first-place prize in the Under 18 section.
The winner of the prize was Ben Short from Fereneze Golf Club who scooped a £100 voucher for American Golf, Europe’s largest golf retailer.
Employees from the Specsavers store were invited to attend a ‘sponsor day’ tournament filled with activities, including, a late breakfast before, a round of golf and a three-course meal followed by the prize giving. Almost 40 participants took part in the event.
A word from the store director
Neil Drain, store director at Specsavers Kirkintilloch, said: ‘We’re very proud to sponsor a fantastic local golfing club which is right on our doorstep. We had a brilliant day out at the sponsors’ day at the club, it was lovely to meet everyone, and I think this year will be a great success for the club.’
A word from the golf club director
William McMeeking, director of Lenzie Golf Club said: ‘The golf tournament has been taking place for 41 years now but unfortunately the 2016 and 2017 tournaments were cancelled as entrant numbers were too low.
‘We are therefore delighted this year’s tournament was so successful. Specsavers’ sponsorship, along with that of the other sponsors, helped massively with entrant numbers and prizes were also substantially increased.
Competitors really enjoyed the event, with many of the golfers already asking for the 2019 tournament date.’
Lenzie Golf Club opened in 1889 and is surrounded with great views of the Campsie Hills and Ben Lomond. The clubhouse offers a warm and friendly welcome, alongside a well-equipped golf shop.
