The Kirkintilloch audiologists has raised more than £135 to sponsor a hearing dog puppy.
Fundraising drive to sponsor
Nutmeg Staff at Specsavers in the town held a fundraising drive to raise the funds required, including organising a tombola, ‘guess the toy dog’s birthday’ competition and a bake sale.
Some members of the team also completed a dog walk from Kirkintilloch Canal to Bishopbriggs to raise awareness of the charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. More than 100 goody bags were also handed out to customers.
The funds will go towards training the store’s sponsored puppy, a cockapoo named Nutmeg, which will then be paired with a deaf person to support them in their everyday life.
Following Nutmeg’s training
Store director Neil Drain said: ‘All our staff are delighted to have surpassed our fundraising target and we’re looking forward to following the progress of the puppy as it goes through the training process to become a hearing dog.’
Specsavers Audiologists and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People celebrated 10 years of partnership earlier this year.
