Specsavers in Kirkcaldy has raised £465 for the Guide Dogs Charity thanks to the help of its generous customers.

In aid of Guide Dogs Week 2015 the High Street store hosted an array of activities across the weekend to raise funds and awareness for this great cause.

This year’s theme was ‘Let’s Glow’ so the team in Kirkcaldy made donations and donned neon and bright clothing to host their family fun day on Saturday 10 October which was packed with activities for everyone to enjoy.

Busy store

The local opticians was bustling with stalls and games including a tombola and cake sale made up of home baking delights from the store team. There were various canine-themed activities too, including Guess the Dog’s Name and Pin the Tail on the Puppy.

The puppy fun continued on Sunday afternoon 11 October when store staff, friends, family and members of the local community met at Loch Leven with their furry friends for a sponsored dog walk. All the dogs taking part were given a ‘superdog’ cape to wear and awarded with a certificate and treat to mark their participation.

National Guide Dogs Week took place from the 3-11 October.

Generous donations

Kathryn Thompson, store director of Specsavers Kirkcaldy, said: ‘Specsavers has been a proud supporter of Guide Dogs for more than 10 years. Thanks to the generosity of our customers we have raised a nationwide total of £270,000 in the past four years, which has funded 25 guide dog puppies.

‘We’d like to thank everyone that joined us across the weekend and for all the generous donations which helped us reach this fantastic total.’

Continued support

Lisa Bell, Guide Dogs’ corporate partnerships officer said: ‘Every hour another person in the UK loses their sight, and the impact is life changing. The Guide Dogs charity is here to make sure that when someone loses their vision they don’t have to lose their freedom as well. This Guide Dogs Week we want to reach even more people to raise awareness and reach our biggest ever Guide Dogs Week fundraising target of £1million.’
