Specsavers Kilmarnock raised £71.50 for Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) through a sweet guessing game in store during National Eye Health week (18-24 September).

The Kilmarnock opticians hosted a ‘guess the number of sweets in the jar’ competition with funds from every £1 guess going straight to charity.

Matthew Gallagher, aged 9, was the lucky recipient of the jam-packed sweetie jar with his guess of 420. He popped into store this week to collect his winnings after his routine eye check.

Big congratulations

Myra Smith, store director at Specsavers Kilmarnock, said: ‘Thank you to everyone that contributed to our in store fundraiser this month and a big congratulations to our winner Matthew.’

Recent YouGov data, commissioned by Specsavers and RNIB, found that people in the UK are not taking their eye health as seriously as they should – despite regular eye tests being able to potentially detect signs of major health conditions including brain tumours, heart disease, strokes and diabetes.
