Pablo Colella from Kidderminster has beaten off competition from thousands of other specs wearers to be named as a regional semi-finalist in the Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Twenty-eight-year-old Pablo, who owns a fashion media company, didn’t even realise he’d been entered into the competition when he got the call to say he’d made the cut. His father nominated him after seeing it advertised at Specsavers in Kidderminster, but forgot to mention it to Pablo!
‘It was certainly a shock to find out I was a regional semi-finalist,’ he said. ‘But I love wearing my specs, having worn them since I was a child, and think this competition is a great way to advocate looking good in your glasses. I have several different pairs and see them as a great fashion accessory.’
During a visit to Specsavers in Kidderminster, Pablo received a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 voucher and is now in with a chance of winning £10,000 along with a luxury holiday for two to New York and a glasses wardrobe from Specsavers worth £1,000.
Store director Tim Reeves commented: ‘We’re delighted that Pablo has made it through to this stage of the competition – it’s great for us and for Kidderminster and we wish him luck in hopefully making it through to the final.’
The awards were launched by former Pussycat Doll, Kimberly Wyatt, earlier this year. If he triumphs in his age category, Pablo could meet Kimberly and other stars at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and 60+. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover and a trip to London for the awards evening, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate prize.
