Specsavers in Kettering is helping to ensure that children at Kettering General Hospital receive Christmas gifts this year by collecting shoeboxes full of presents.

Gift collection

Members of staff at The Mall store are encouraging local residents to donate gifts to spread goodwill during the festive season to children who are spending their Christmas in hospital.

The cut-off date for dropping the gifts off in store is Wednesday 20 December, when the boxes will be taken to the children’s ward at Kettering General Hospital in time for Christmas Day.

A word from the store director

‘For many of us, Christmas is a time to give and receive gifts with our loved ones, but there are many children in Kettering who won’t be waking up at home to presents under a tree this festive season,’ commented store director, Mark Turner.

‘Spending Christmas in hospital is far from perfect, and we are delighted to be collecting presents to raise a smile for the kids at Kettering General Children’s Ward.’

People are being asked to bring gifts into store or fill a shoebox of presents and indicate whether it is intended for a boy or girl. Boxes can be filled with a range of gifts including toys, school supplies, arts and crafts sets or other items such as hairbrushes, hats, gloves or hair accessories.

Mark added: ‘We are acting as a collection point so anyone looking to donate a shoebox or to buy an extra gift can bring them directly to us. While the items may seem small, they will go a long way to putting smiles on so many faces this Christmas.’
