Specsavers in Kenilworth will be sponsoring a local cycling event organised by local resident, Debbie White, to raise money for the eye research charity Fight for Sight.
The store will be supporting Bike for Sight Warwickshire and is inviting local cyclists to take part in the event on September 14, which will star paracyclist Damien Vereker.
‘We’re proud to be lending our support to the Bike for Sight event in order to raise money for Fight for Sight,’ said Ambreena Bhatti, store director. ‘The money raised from the event will help the charity conduct research into eye related conditions, including corneal dystrophy, which one of our young customers, Matilda Henley, was diagnosed with.”
Bike for Sight offers 16k and 50k distances, making it suitable for people of all ages and experience levels. All cyclists will need to register prior to the event and will be required to wear a helmet during the ride. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult, while 16-18 year-olds should have parental consent to take part.
Fight for Sight Warwickshire
Fight for Sight is the UK’s largest charity dedicated to funding pioneering eye research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease. Debbie White, who chairs the Fight for Sight Warwickshire committee has been raising awareness for the past two decades.
She pledged to raise £20,000 for the charity to mark this milestone and is delighted to bring the first Bike for Sight to Warwickshire.
Debbie was diagnosed with Usher’s Syndrome over 40 years ago and her sight has been affected by an inherited condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa. Debbie said: “It has been an incredible year and everyone has been so generous and supportive. A huge thank you to Specsavers for their support. The funds raised will help to support Fight for Sight and the amazing research work they do to help create a future that everyone can see.”
