Ipswich hospital theatre assistant, Yvonne rubbed shoulders with an array of specs-wearing superstars at the Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards on Tuesday 10 October.
Glamorous star-studded night
The 53-year-old took to the stage to receive her Spectacle Wearer of the Year award at the glamorous event staged by Specsavers.
The 22nd Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards, hosted by Rylan Clark-Neal at 8 Northumberland Avenue, London, was in aid of anti-bullying charity Kidscape. Yvonne was selected from thousands of hopefuls to be crowned the 45-59 winner.
Yvonne received her award from fellow fabulous specs wearer Martin Kemp. She said: ‘I can’t believe I made it to the grand finals, it’s all a bit surreal! I had a fantastic night at the awards in London and meeting Martin Kemp was a real highlight. He was so charming and made me feel at ease as I was buzzing from all the excitement!’.
Second time lucky
Store directors Ming Tye and Mark Taggart congratulated Yvonne saying: ‘We’ve never had a customer become a SWOTY winner so to have Yvonne showing off her fabulous style is a wonderful way to highlight the style credentials of our town.
‘Yvonne's achievement proves how timeless her style is as this is her second time making it through to the few final rounds and this time she’s gone all the way and won an award.’
'Yvonne in particular plays such a big part in our community, assisting in the health and wellbeing of so many people in Ipswich through her work at the hospital so it’s lovely to see her shining in the limelight at the star-studded awards last night.’
All in aid of a good cause
Monies from awards entries, sponsorship, ticket sales and a luxury raffle were wholly donated to Kidscape, raising £120,000, bringing the total raised by Specsavers for the charity in the last nine years to half a million.
