Budding football stars in Newport are kicking off the season with brand new kit thanks to a local opticians. Newport Hurricanes under 11s team is thanking its local Specsavers store after they became a sponsor and provided the young footballers with new shirts, shorts and socks.
Growing from strength to strength
The school children, who started playing as a team last year, made it to the top half of the Isle of Wight Under 11s Youth League despite using secondhand strips throughout last season.
Manager, Ben Howell, is hoping the new kit will help the team continue to grow from strength to strength, and says the sponsorship came at a great time: ‘The boys have worked so hard this year, and I’m really proud of them. This is a great boost for them and they have all been really excited to play in their new gear.
‘Hopefully this will mean we can continue to build on the success of last year too. The new sponsorship means we’re associated with a popular brand, so on behalf of the team I’d like to thank Specsavers for its support.’
A word from store staff
Becky Murphy, optical assistant at Specsavers Newport, is delighted to be sponsoring the young team: ‘We’re so happy to help the boys out with their new kit. My son plays for the team and they’ve had a great first season so we’re pleased we can give them an extra boost ahead of this year. It’s great to get involved in the community and we wish the team the best of luck for the season ahead.’
