Stuart Cummings MBE
Stuart has taken charge of over 400 rugby league games during his career, including four Challenge Cup finals, two World Cup finals and two Grand Finals. He was also regularly featured on Rugby League live broadcasts to provide expert opinion, and has more recently received an MBE for services to rugby league.
Stuart Cummings, MBE, commented: ‘During my refereeing career I was blessed with perfect vision, contrary to many people’s beliefs, and had regular eye tests to back this up! I work with a wide range of sportsmen and women and attention to detail is crucial and as such, regular eye tests are essential to ensure they’re on top of their game.
Since entering into a management role, I have spent more time analysing and reviewing games and as a result I found that I needed glasses. I have been a regular customer at Specsavers Ilkley branch for a number of years now and find their friendly staff, attention to detail and professional service a great reason to keep returning.
A great range of frames and styles help me to feel confident in the many roles I now have, and I know I will receive the best advice possible from the staff at Ilkley.’
Keeping referees on top of their games
Roger Copely, store director at Ilkley Specsavers, said: ‘Regular examinations ensure that fans and players alike know that referees are on top of their game, so it was great to have Stuart in the store to reinforce this message.
Technological advancements in recent years have certainly helped umpires and referees but we will always rely on their personal judgements too. At Specsavers we are glad to do our bit, where we can, to help ensure they get the best possible support to do their job.’
