Audiology experts at Specsavers sister stores in Ilkeston, Beeston, Long Eaton and Eastwood are offering ear wax removal as part of an all-encompassing ear health check.
Members of staff at the stores are fully trained in micro-suction wax removal to professionally remove excess ear wax, which may be causing discomfort or difficulty hearing.
Hear to help
Customers can attend a dedicated wax removal clinic at the Long Eaton store on Saturday 22 September, while those closer to Ilkeston can attend one there on Saturday 13 October. There will also be clinics running in Eastwood and Beeston in the coming months.
The hearing team is offering the service to hearing customers at a cost of £70 for both ears, or £35 for one. Customers can benefit from this service free of charge if they buy hearing aids from Specsavers.
‘Amazingly our ears biologically self-clean and wax helps to maintain the health of our ears,’ said audiology director, Raj Somal. ‘But problems can arise when items, such as cotton buds or earplugs, are inserted into the ear. This interferes with the ear’s natural cleaning process and pushes wax and debris further into the ear, which can cause build-up or a blockage of the ear canal.
‘Wax build-up also makes it very difficult to perform accurate hearing tests, so this service means customers can have everything managed at the same time, and without the need to refer a customer to their GP, relieving pressure on the NHS and taking away the hassle of re-booking a test.
‘If you notice any of the symptoms of impacted wax, including sudden or partial hearing loss, tinnitus, a feeling of fullness in the ear or an earache, then we advise you to visit one of our audiologists in store who can help resolve the issue.’
Specsavers hearing centres in Ilkeston, Beeston, Long Eaton and Eastwood offer a range of audiology services, including testing, hearing aid fitting, wax removal and treatment of other minor conditions on behalf of the NHS. The Specsavers Hearing Check App is free to download on the App and Play store on iOS or Android devices and advises whether a full check in store is recommended.
