The adventurous and brave Specsavers team in Hyde took to the waters to raise an astonishing £1030 for their chosen charity, Dementia UK.
The UK's fastest whitewater river rafting course
The nine-strong team ventured to Wales to take on one of the UK's fastest whitewater river rafting courses to raise funds for the charity which supports those experiencing dementia which currently affects an estimated 850,000 people across the country.
Store director Diane Wood said: ' We chose Dementia UK because as individuals, some of us had been personally touched by dementia, so it seemed natural that as a company, we should collectively find a fitting way of giving something back to our communities.
'I’ve always felt that the right thing for employees is to involve them fully in the organisation, and the fact that we raised over £1030 for our chosen charity, certainly proves the point.'
A worthy cause
Another member of the intrepid Specsavers team, Liz Sowood added, 'Dementia UK is a charity that is close to my heart and I’m really proud to have taken on the challenge in order to raise money for them. As a group; from getting sponsored by family, friends and customers, to finally running the rapids, caused us all to become more socially aware and helped us bond closer with our colleagues as we teamed up to help those in need.
