How did you come to work at Specsavers in Huyton
I started working in another Specsavers store prior to working in Huyton. Since working here I have progressed to the role of contact lens supervisor which I am very passionate about.
Do you wear specs and if so what is your favourite style?
I have worn glasses for about 7 years, my favourite style are the plastic designer frames, some of the frames I have include Tommy Hilfiger, Karen Millen and cheap Monday. The frame I currently have is Superdry (Yumi - 30525246)
What does your job at Specsavers opticians involve?
My job includes looking after the contact lens customers throughout there journey e.g. Making sure the lenses are ordered and in on time, teaching customers how to insert and remove the lenses, making sure we have a full stock of lenses for the opticians to use for the fitting appointment, setting up direct debit schemes and completing general contact lens reports.
How long have you been with the company?
I have worked for Specsavers for 6 years.
What is the best part of your role?
The satisfaction of showing a customer how to use contact lenses independently after they had convinced themselves they were unable to do it.
Learning all the different types of lenses was a challenge but once this was completed it was a satisfying feeling.
Why is it important to get your eyes checked regularly?
It's important to get regular eye tests (or contact lens checks) to check the general health of the eyes, they can pick up on such things as glaucoma, cataracts and diabetes etc. It is also to check for any prescription changes so the customer is up to date with new glasses.
What do most people struggle with when it comes to using contact lenses?
A lot of customers face the difficulty of the insertion and removal of the contact lenses, this is something that they may have to return a second time to try.
What sorts of contact lenses are there?
Soft daily contact lenses for people who would like to wear them now and again without the hassle of cleaning them etc. Soft monthly contact lenses work for people who like to wear them every day; these have to be taken out of a night, cleaned and stored in a pot with solution.
Other contact lenses include multi focal lenses for people who would like to be able to see in them for distance and reading and toric lenses for people with an astigmatism.
What are the dangers of buying contact lenses online, without consulting an optical expert?
The customers are not having the full check from an optician which includes the fitting of the lenses on the cornea. The wrong prescription could be ordered , the customer could also be allergic to certain contact lens materials.
If the customer is not having a full check of the health of the eyes they are more likely to contract an infection later down the line which could be very serious if not treated in the correct way, this is why a full check must be completed and up to date in order to buy contact lenses with us.
