Staff at a Hounslow opticians have put their best feet forward by organising a sponsored walk to raise £1,000 for the Hounslow Toy Library for Children with Disabilities.
A total of 20 staff members from the Specsavers store, located at 174 High Street, took part in the 13-mile walk on Saturday 13 May.
Led by senior optometrist Rekha Chopra, the group started the route at the Specsavers store and made their way towards central London, taking in several landmarks including the Natural History Museum and Buckingham Palace before finishing their journey at St Paul’s Cathedral.
A worthy cause
The store has so far raised more than £800 for the Hounslow Toy Library through the event, and is now appealing for further donations to hit its £1,000 target.
Ranna Rai, store director at Specsavers Hounslow, says: ‘The team had a lot of fun with the walk and it was great to raise money for such a worthy cause.
‘We chose Hounslow Toy Library because one of our patients, Meryl Mathews, volunteers for them. During an eye test in 2015, she told us that deaf and blind children come to the toy library and they learn through touch.
‘As a provider of audiology and eye care in Hounslow, we think it is a great local charity to support.’
A big thank you
The Hounslow Toy Library provides children with disabilities the opportunity to borrow toys to take home. The toys have been specially selected to help improve a child’s skills, as well as provide enjoyment, fun and stimulation.
Cathy Quinn, practitioner at Hounslow Toy Library for Children with Disabilities, says: ‘On behalf of everyone here I would like to thank Specsavers enormously for their fundraising for our toy library.
‘As a small charity we rely on such support to continue to provide our service for disabled children, and so the money raised by the staff at Hounslow Specsavers will make a tangible difference to the lives of the many children who use HTL. Their efforts on our behalf, therefore, are greatly appreciated.’
Specsavers Hounslow is still accepting donations for the Hounslow Toy Library through its fundraising page, which can be found at https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/specsavershounslowwalk
