A talented staff member at Specsavers in Hounslow is aiming to become the next big rock star by participating in the Romanian version of The Voice talent show next month.
Vlad Radu, age 17, works as a lab technician at Specsavers Hounslow and by night he is studying Level 2 Music at West Thames College.
He is now getting his first big break in the music scene as he has been selected to appear on the Romanian version of The Voice; also known as Vocea Romaniei.
Vlad, who moved to London from Romania in 2016, says: ‘My biggest dream is to be guitarist and lead singer in my own rock band.
‘I started playing guitar about three years ago, when my mum taught me how to play.'
In the limelight
Vlad’s musical talents have since caught the attention of show producers on Vocea Romaniei, who have invited him to audition for the show after finding him on Facebook.
‘I've got to get through two auditions with the producers. The first one is on 11th March and I'm a bit nervous about it, but at the same time I am pretty excited.’ Says Vlad.
Away from music, Vlad has been supporting the team at Specsavers Hounslow, where he has been working part time since January this year.
Vlad says: ‘My main duties are placing orders for spectacle lenses and packing finished glasses. I literally love this job. I go to work smiling and everyone is really nice – my colleagues are awesome.’
Ranna Rai, store director at Specsavers Hounslow, says: ‘As well as being a brilliant guitarist, Vlad is an excellent worker and has been a real credit to the store since joining. We’ll be supporting him all the way during the auditions and hope he goes far in the competition.’
