Specsavers in Hounslow raised a smile and a total of £110 for Macmillan Cancer Support after treating its customers to a morning of coffee and cakes recently.
Staff members wore green items of clothing – the official colour of Macmillan – and served coffee and homemade cakes to customers during the event held on Friday 29 September, with money from each slice sold being donated directly to the charity.
The funds will be used to support Macmillan’s work in reaching and improving the lives of people living with cancer, which it estimates affects 2.5 million people living in the UK.
A word from the store
Surjit Nerwan, dispensing assistant at Specsavers Hounslow, was responsible for organising the coffee morning at the opticians.
Surjit said: ‘We lost a relative in April with stomach cancer and, a few years ago, I also had a scare but, luckily, it was benign.
‘Cancer is big killer and Macmillan is doing all it can to help its patients and families. It’s a fantastic charity to support they need all the help they can get.’
Ranna Rai, store director at Specsavers Hounslow, added: ‘Surjit and the team did a fantastic job with the coffee morning, which went down really well with our customers and helped us raise vital funds for a worthy cause in the process.’
