The Honiton store are collecting old and unused glasses in aid of Vision Aid Overseas (VAO). Store staff are encouraging locals to search high and low for old specs as they aim to collect a record number of glasses for the charity.
Store director Stephen Auty said: ‘We have a donation bin for all to see in store and we would like to collect over 500 pairs of glasses by July. Once the box is full the glasses are donated to VAO for recycling. The charity then sells the reusable materials and uses the money it makes to fund its work in developing countries.
Victoria Cox, international programme officer for VAO said: ‘We look forward to seeing how many pairs of glasses the people of Honiton can donate. It’s such a worthwhile cause as this is not only preventing specs from ending up in landfills but also raising vital funds for our overseas programmes’.
