In a fight against the UK’s biggest killer, heart disease, opticians at Specsavers in Hillsborough raised £100 for charity by taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Wear it. Beat it’ initiative on Friday 5 February.

The team at Specsavers on Middlewood Road dressed up in red outfits and encouraged donations from customers to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Regular sight tests are vital
They also reminded customers that regular eye tests can detect a whole host of health conditions.

Gary Bamford, store director at Hillsborough Specsavers, said: ‘Heart disease statistics in the UK are really shocking: every three minutes someone is struck by a heart attack.

'During regular eye examinations, Specsavers opticians can assess patients’ eye health and detect warning signs of heart problems. The retina is a window for our optometrists to pick up on underlying health problems beyond simply identifying vision loss.

Specsavers in Hillsborough are collecting donations from customers throughout February in aid of BHF research.
