A Hexham opticians donated more than 2500 pairs of used and unwanted specs to help improve access to eyecare services overseas.

The team from Specsavers Hexham encouraged local residents to donate to the scheme in aid of international sight charity Vision Aid Overseas, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2015.

Julie Hall, store director of Specsavers in Hexham, said: ‘We’ve been blown away by the response from the community. It’s great that the sale of the reusable materials from these specs will help create a positive impact on the lives of people less fortunate.’
